Tampa, Florida, is known for its amazing tourist attractions, most notably the 335-acre Busch Gardens and the Lowry Park Zoo. The city is home to over 335,000 residents and boasts the second largest metropolitan area in Florida with a population of over four million.
Tampa’s satellite cities and suburbs include Tempe Terrace, Clearwater, Lakeland, Brandon, Riverview, Belleair, Seminole, Redington Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, St. Pete Beach, Safety Harbor and Treasure Island. The city is four hours from Miami by car.
Tourism plays a large role in Tampa’s economy, as does national defense, healthcare, insurance, retail and the financial industry. Shipping is also an important industry, in part because the city has the largest port in the state.
Tampa has a subtropical climate, with warm air from the Gulf Stream bringing humidity and generally mild winters, although freezing conditions do rarely occur. June through August sees temperatures in the 90s and high humidity, which can make the weather muggy and unpleasant. Rainfall is heaviest in the summer, averaging between 5.5 to 8 inches a month.
